I’m keeping my 46/18T on the REK, and 40/21 on the Uniscorcher. If I had a fixed/fixed, instead of a cursed flip/flop that’ll likely never flop, I’d run a 23T on the other side. Seriously. Come to Northern Vermont and you’ll understand. It’s not like the hills are any steeper here than anywhere else. They’re steep and ROUGH.

Yea, I used to run 48×16, but that was mostly because it was the stock gearing on my track bike. Then I started hacking it up so I could use it as a cross bike, which then led to me wanting to use it as my allrounder bike and the 48×16 was just a bear offroad. I ended up going 39×16, hard enough to keep up on the road without spinning out too quick and easy enough to keep the pedals turning on rough and steep singletrack. Gearing is so highly personal that I don’t think it matters what anyone else is running, you just gotta know your legs…
Roads back east also don’t seem to have switch backs =)
So I would be riding lower ratio as well.
