Ah, Wade has a real job now. Sadly, that may make it much more difficult to get him to build a custom frame for you. He wrote me that he should be caught up on customer orders by late spring. But, when he gets caught up he’ll be building for himself, his son and his partner. I can’t imagine how hard it must be to make it as an independent framebuilder. It didn’t surprise me that he took a full-time job. Definitely sounds like things are feeling good in Vulture Land. Rock on, Wade! (Jessica and Rio too!)
I’ve more or less finished moving. Now I live right near Lake Champlain. It’s about a one minute ride to the beach. (Not that you’d want to ride down there today = -7° F. A little chilly for a roll by the lake.) Should now be able to get my ski tuning/bike shop set up again after about 4 years in storage. Excited. Nice space in cellar for it. All in good time. I’m knackered this morning…literally like a tired old farm animal.
Not too much else to report. Thanks to all my readers around the world. Thanks to Google I know I have readers from Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, the UK, France, Portugal, Poland, Germany, Italy, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Iran, Thailand, India….and more. Crazy. Who knew fixing was so popular around the world…
Here’s something I really hope I’m not responsible for in any way. Ah, it wouldn’t be the worst thing if he got some ideas from me. Check it out:
Well, being so OS X/Firefox-centric and being pretty slack in general, I’ve been ignoring the fact that the blog is broken in IE 7 (and probably IE 6 too for all I know.) I just don’t test for Windows. I promise to consider fixing it. I’ve got IE 7 running in VMWare Fusion now, which is pretty good for testing. So, I’ll consider it. Probably just build a simple table and stop trying to live in a css dominated table-less world.
My health is coming around now, in spite of the weird warm winter weather. Getting ready to move out of “six feet under studios” and live in the light again. I’ve got a new place with a big back yard and bay windows: gardening and houseplants. Sweet! The only downside is having a life (debatable) and having to move at the same time. I’ve got a couple weeks to get me stuff out/in as the new flat is vacant. One of my two new roommates has already moved in. He just came up here from Mississippi to go to graduate school. Very cool dude, dude! Anyway….other tidbits: the REK frame is finding a new home for spring. I’m cutting loose the last of my caches of bike/ski/audio swag. My hording therapy has been going very well and it’s time to fulfill step 2 and give away the caches. OK, I’ll probably sell the better stuff, but I’m gonna give an offering to the kharma higher-power: a big pile of cool stuff, of the highest quality, that I’ve not used for some time and have “carried around” for at least a few moves.
I think I know the guy who rides this one. He can ride figure 8’s in reverse and puts flatland tricks in there at the same time. When I first saw him do it he was riding my bike sight unseen and didn’t even own a fixed gear bike at the time. Sick.
Frejus, 58ish, mix-and-match functional kit. There was about an inch of nasty slush on still-oily pave. He rocks. I seem him ride all winter and then some.
Aside from the freaky weather, things are rocking along here. More music, new friends, a new year. The light of day lingers just a bit longer with each passing moon.
Here’s my ATL gal pal Ab’s custom fix:
(It’s not in Burlington, so I won’t count it…but check it out!)
Blue chain, tires, pad, grips. Saddle by Brooks. Not sure what make it is. Last I talked to her I thought she said Mercian, Reynolds 631 and lugs, but I don’t see it. Any thoughts?
The girl’s got style, she can ride, and she wrenches too.
Bad Ass.
