Return to Orbit

May 23rd, 2007 § 0

Well, yea.

I’m coming out of solar orbit after going to warp there for a week or two. I’ve been trying to bring the rain to a fair bit of the desert and have been rewarded with a few squalls. The rain dance continues.

It’s been warm and beautiful. Thankful, yes.

No Bikes Here!!!

May 9th, 2007 § 0

Damn:

It must be suicidal to ride a bike down here. I’m on my last few hours in Central Florida. I didn’t really get into downtown Orlando, but out here near the convention center, riding on the road would be death. It’s not necessarily the cars. It’s the road. The car lane ends with the line for the bike lane, then there is a two inch drop. The “bike lane” then slopes fairly steeply down to the curb. Definitely designed to put water up against the curb. Also well designed to take the distracted cyclist’s front wheel right into the curb. I was told this AM that bikes are allowed on the ample width sidewalks. I guess that’s not a bad compensation. Anyway, I’ve found this city to be just like Disneyworld….some idealized fantasy world. Too many big hotels, big miniature golf courses and big and mediocre restaurants. ‘Nuf said. I did some good biz though, and made a friend who is manager of consumer products for Bosch in the US and Huntington Beach, California homeowner. That’s a good connect for sure.

Back to Burlington now and my happy bike-friendly reality.

Orlando…delayed

May 7th, 2007 § 0

Well, I’m ass-planted in the airport. I’m on my way to Florida for the biggest hardware, gourmet housewares and outdoor living show in America. First flight delayed, so because of soon to be missed connections, I’m auto-re-routed through Philly now. An extra 2 hours in the airport and I haven’t even boarded a flight yet.

So, at least here in the Burlington Airport, there is free wifi. I’m looking at some beautiful weather out there…sunshine. Ah, work is good sometimes. Not that I really want to be stuck in the airport, but I’m going to be travelling and or prepping for the show no matter. Making the best of the situation. Blogging. I have a camera too. So, what free time I have I’ll be looking for Postable stuff. I’m hoping to catch a few picts of fix in Florida. Sure seems like the un-hilliness of central (well ALL) of Florida is flat and ought to lend itself well to fix. We’ll see. I also may waive my ban on record purchases as I know that Orlando is home to a killer deep house/funky house sound. And my records are getting a little old as sell.

More from Philly in a few hours. Keep it locked here for the (humorous) play-by-play

OK, I lose

May 4th, 2007 § 1

No-one in particular reminded me, but y’all surely have seen the likes of this. And if you haven’t I think you should reconsider ever calling yourself a bike-geek. And you know you have!

Artistic Cycling they call that and I guess he’s world champion. I don’t see specifically the trick that I’m doing in this video. I admit publicly now though, that I’ve previously seen a similar video, with 4 riders doing the trick I’m working on. Only thing is they all do it at the same time—-backwards 360’s—only their up on the rear wheel only….riding a wheelie backwards and doing the 360’s. I’ve been looking for that clip but haven’t found it yet.

In other news today:

I lost another fender-stay nut. Why don’t fenders come with at least a half dozen extra? We’ll pay an extra few bucks to buy this repair part up front. Sheesh.

I thought my car was stolen this am. I got towed in a street-sweeping parking ban. I guess I just wanted to have a near-heart-attack while involuntarily donating $100 bucks to the city. Arggh.

I had a 90 minute conference call to end one of my longer weeks at work—-ever!

I’m on a plane to Orlando to a big trade show. woohoo. NOT.

NO HANDS 360 CHALLENGE IS ON

May 3rd, 2007 § 0

OK….I challenge you to be the first to do a reverse 360 with no-hands. I’ve gotten to 270 and slipped out….so you best get on it. $25 bucks and an autographed copy of the Cacophony insider-only issue CD.

Beat me to it!

I bet you won’t if you haven’t even started trying yet.

BFX #?

May 2nd, 2007 § 0

I can’t believe I borked the number scheme before I even got to 100.

I can’t believe someone else didn’t see it first and give me a hard time. Slack.

I’m going to abandon the numbers and just label the posts BFX.

Where am I?
