Bike Polo :: Burlington

June 26th, 2008 § 1

I went for a twilite urban shred—I’m so busy with obligations these days—to just ride. And ride I did. Easy, looking around a lot. I’ve fallen in love again. The ride was just so simple. Now that I don’t have concerns about keeping up on group rides or obsessing over gear—I feel like it’s ‘94 again. I just love to ride.

These are some local folk here in Burlington, VT that play bike polo near the waterfront skate park. Come on down and check it out on Wednesday evenings.

That’s all for now.

In the back of my mind I’ve mulled the blogger “curve”. Statistically speaking, there are many others who could better illuminate the trend, but here’s my take.

If you look at the pattern of posts in many blogs, there is a prolific honeymoon phase where posts flow like water after a spring thundershower. For me, this was the first year and a half. I don’t think I missed a month for quite some time. Ideas for posts, the subject matter, the buzz–they seemed to be everywhere–low hanging fruit. This buffet of ideas made it seemingly effortless to push out good, fun, interesting content. Then came the middle period. I worked harder to find the time and motivation for new posts. If you set a high standard early, you feel compelled to perpetually do better and better. It’s a steep wall of expectations. I pushed through this phase by posting less—hopefully coming up with better posts. These days, I post infrequently. It’s not for lack of interest or intent. That said, success doesn’t necessariy beget productivity. I’ve launched and developed many other creative endevors. Their apparent success only reduced the amount of available time for this blog—one of my first online creative projects.

What do I do now? I want to revitalize the interest, commentary and community around fixed impressions. I’m open to suggestions and collaborations. Since the freezing of www.63xc.com, I feel a larger gap for my interests and wan’t to try to help to fill that void.

Are you interested in contributing some content? How about adding your stories…conversions? problems overcome? rides of note? I want to hear about it. I have for several years owned the www.fixedimpressions.com and have some plans to develop it beyond hosting the first part [of the unfinished film] “Fixed Impressions”. I hardly have any interest in going against www.fixedgeargallery.com, but I would like to feature a gallery of fixed gear trail bikes. If you have any interest in that, ping me.

So, I’m back to the plate to take some swings and try to get the blog back to where it was 2 years ago. Any encouragement you want to add will help fire me up—so kick my ass and hopefully I’ll get it back in gear. [42x16]
